JAMES EDWARD “J. E.” BODY, JR. - 89, of Big Stone Gap, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. The family received friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap. The funeral service followed in the church sanctuary at 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Military rites followed at Glencoe Cemetery.
HELEN S. BOY JOHNSON - 88, died in August near her home in Crossville, Tenn. Funeral services were handled by Hood Funeral Home of Crossville and burial was in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
JIMMIE ALAN COLLINS - 62, of Elkridge, Md., died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009. A memorial service will be held at the Gilliam Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.
FRED NEWTON - 92, of Appalachia, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday before services. Military graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the American Legion Cemetery conducted by Local V.F.W. and D.A.V. members and Army National Guards Honors team. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for the procession to the cemetery.
CARLYLE CARTER CLARK - 84, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009. Funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Scott County Funeral Home chapel. A military graveside service was conducted Thursday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
WORLEY Darwin Durham - 82, of Big Stone Gap, died Tuesday Oct. 20, 2009. Funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Life Center Church in Coeburn. Entombment services followed in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
JAMES H. “PREACHER” STIDHAM - 63, of East Stone Gap, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009. The family received friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the East Stone Gap Baptist Church. The funeral service was conducted at noon Saturday at the East Stone Gap Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Stidham Family Cemetery on Wallens Ridge in Big Stone Gap.
ADELINE Y. SKORUPA - 95, of Big Stone Gap, died Thursday (Nov. 5, 2009) at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap following a brief illness. Visitation was held at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home in Appalachia from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 8. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at the Scared Heart Catholic Church in Big Stone Gap at 11 a.m. Monday with Reverend Timothy Drake officiating. Interment was in the Powell Valley Memorial Garden. Pallbearers were the grandsons.
BILLIE JO WATKINS - 75, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap. Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, in Holding Funeral Home Chapel. Committal services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
INEZ (Granny) GARRISON - 93, of Derby, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Grover Glenn “Red” Lucas, 81, of St. Paul, passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, in Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Norton. Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment services and military graveside rites were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Valley View Mausoleum, Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the Virginia National Guard.
