Appalachia began to take on a new look Monday as demolition of two old buildings got underway. The remains of what’s been known as the Kaylor building for more than half a century were the first to fall, with the David’s Furniture building at the other end of Main Street next in line. With traffic routed around the Main Street work area, a handful of town officials and curious spectators stayed clear as Wise County Public Works Director Jackie Darter supervised the demolition and the Kaylor building fell to the business end of an excavator.
