One person was killed and another was injured in an early Monday morning crash slightly north of Lonesome Pine Airport. According to Virginia State Police, at 5:25 a.m., a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Christopher T. Covell, 47, of Wise, was traveling south on Route 643, slightly more than a mile south of Route 670. The vehicle ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Covell died at the scene.
