For more than 60 years, the Dogwood Garden Club has worked the soil to beautify Big Stone Gap and enrich the town’s cultural life. Organized on May 17, 1953 by Clara Lou Kelly, who was also the driving force behind Lonesome Pine Arts and Crafts and other efforts at cultural uplift, the Dogwood Garden Club has beautified the town’s public spaces and served as an educational institution for people interested in nurturing and appreciating plants. The club made its most recent sizable gift to the community last October, when it dedicated the arbor and garden at C. Bascom Slemp Memorial Library....
