The need for a strong leader in trying times moved Chase Christian to suggest appointing Kenneth Joyner as Appalachia police chief. Christian, vice mayor of town council, made the motion to appoint Joyner police chief at last Thursday’s meeting. Council passed the motion 5-0. Christian’s motion also calls for the town to expand its police force by hiring part-time officers, recruiting auxiliary officers and reviving the citizen ride-along program.
