Cat Coal Company, Inc. is applying for bond release on Permit No. 1101555 located in Dickenson County, .25 miles south of Tarpon. This permit consists of 241.97 acres which are bonded under the Virginia Coal Surface Mining Reclamation Fund (Pool Bond). As provided by 4 VAC 25-130-801.17 of the Virginia Coal Surface Mining Reclamation Regulations, the Applicant is requesting that the total bond amount of $ 312,000 in the form of insurance surety currently posted for this permit be released.

This bond release request is based on completion of the extended period of responsibility (5 full years) for successful revegetation and the following reclamation: Reclamation of all non-industrial and non-commercial areas by regrading, revegetation and tree planting in 2003, 2006, and 2007. The site is fully reclaimed with grass, shrubs and trees as verified by vegetation surveys and tree counts. The postmining land uses are unmanaged forest, commercial (quarry) and light industrial (gas lines).
