Wise County, VA – There will be a Town Hall Meeting for the residents of Wise County, VA on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 6:30 P.M. at the Wise Bingo Building located at 303 Norton Rd, SW, Wise, VA. The town hall meeting will allow all residents of Wise County to discuss their concerns on Fire and EMS service delivery with the study team in an open forum.

Wise County Board of Supervisors requested the Virginia Fire Services Board to undertake a study of fire and emergency medical services in Wise County. The study will be reviewing several areas of responsibility within the county’s fire and rescue services in order to maximize opportunities for improvement and overall enhance the quality and coordination of Fire and EMS service delivery to its citizens.

SURFACE MINING/NPDES PERMIT

UNDER CHAPTER 19

TITLE 45.1

PUBLICATION NUMBER: 13JKC05

Red River Coal Company, Inc. of P.O. Box 668, Norton, Virginia 24273 is applying to the Virginia Division of Mined Land Reclamation for renewal of CSMO Permit Number 1101661/NPDES Permit Number 0081661 in order to continue the operations at the following location:

In Wise County approximately six miles northwest of Norton off Route 620 near the headwaters of Powell River. The proposed permit area is west of Powell River on the eastern slope of Rogers Ridge. The permit area is bounded approximately by Buckeye Branch on the South, Rogers Ridge on the West and North, and Powell River on the East. The permit area is located on the Flat Gap USGS quadrangle map.

Drainage and wastewater resulting from the mining operation will pass through approved sediment control structures and be discharged to Buckeye Branch and Powell River.

A copy of the application materials is available for public inspection and comment at the Wise County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. A copy of the draft NPDES permit and fact sheet are available for public inspection and comment at the Division’s Big Stone Gap office. Any person whose interests are or may be adversely affected by the proposed revision, or an Officer, or Head of any Federal, State, or local government agency or authority may within 30 days of July 19, 2013 submit written comments or objections to the Division of Mined Land Reclamation concerning the renewal application; and may also request, in writing, that the Division hold an Informal Conference concerning the application. A request for an informal conference shall follow the requirements of 4 VAC 25-130-773.13c of the Virginia Coal Surface Mining Reclamation Regulations.
