Appalachia wins Coal Classic title
APPALACHIA - Coal Classic MVP scored 29 points to lead the Bulldogs (8-0) to a 65-50 win over the Coeburn Blue Knights (4-4) in the championship game of the Coal Classic.
Stuart, a junior, also passed the 1,000-point mark for his career.
The win gave Appalachia its second straight Coal Classic championship.
Mason Stuart and Mladen Bogicevic each added 13 points for the Bulldogs. Coeburn got 26 points from Andrew Pate.
HARLAN (Ky.) 69, RYE COVE 47
APPALACHIA - The Green Dragons (4-6) got 14 points from Phillip Ely, while Chris Begley added 10 on the way to a third-place finish in the Coal Classic consolation game.
Rye Cove (1-9) got 16 points from Zach Maness and 14 points from Chase Rollins.
LEE 66, THOMAS WALKER 49
APPALACHIA - Lee improved to 5-3 on the season by picking up their third win of the year over Thomas Walker (1-7) in the fifth-place game of the Coal Classic.
Tyler Maggard led the Generals with 21 points, while John Hill scored 16 points, Craig Copeland added 11 points and Caleb Bledsoe finished with 10.
Dustin Welch led Thomas Walker with 13 points, wihle Brandon Moore finished with 12 and Ryan Scott scored 11.
LEBANON WINS GREENWAVE CLASSIC
CLINTWOOD - Ben Hendrickson came off the bench and scored 15 points to lead the Lebanon Pioneers (6-1) to a 50-45 win in the championship game of the Greenwave Classic.
Castlewood (5-3) got 14 points, 10 rebounds and 7 steals from Zach Bush.
COUNCIL 52, HAYSI 47
CLINTWOOD - Chris Fleming passed 1,000 points for his career by scoring 25 points for the Tigers (3-4). But, it wasn't enough as Council (7-2) held on for the win in the third-place game of the Greenwave Classic.
Shane Presley led the Cobras with 18 points.
J.J. KELLY 64, CLINTWOOD 40
CLINTWOOD - Aaron Clark scored a game high 21 points to lead the Indians (5-4) to a win over host Clintwood (2-5) in the fifth place game of the Greenwave Classic.
No Clintwood players reached double figures in the scoring category.
J.I. BURTON 57, POUND 52
CLINTWOOD - The Raiders gave new coach Aaron Williams his first win at Burton by hanging on for the win in the seventh-place game of the Greenwave Classic.
Burton (1-2) led 33-19 at halftime, but was outscored by the Wildcats 33-24 in the second half to make things close.
Will Stanley led a balanced scoring attack for Burton with 9 points, while Chase Beverly led Pound (2-4) with 14 points.

Lady Raiders repeat as Coal Classic champs
APPALACHIA - J.I. Burton won the Coal Classic championship for the second year in a row with a 50-35 win over the J.J. Kelly Indians.
Burton (8-0) got 12 points each from Iris Hill and Brianna Stallard. Hill also finished with 7 assists. Tournament MVP RaShelle Miller, who did not play for over 10 minutes of the game because of foul trouble, finished with 10 points, 17 rebounds and 6 steals.
Ashley Mullins scored 10 points for Kelly (7-2), while Allison Mullins pulled down 11 rebounds.
