Castlewood 47, Twin Springs 31

CASTLEWOOD - The Blue Devils (3-2, 1-0) outscored Twin Springs 24-10 in the second half to blow open a close game in the Cumberland District opener for both squads.

Zach Bush led Castlewood with 14 points, while Reuben Rasnick added 12.

Twin Springs (1-2, 0-1) did not have a player reach double-figure scoring.

Grundy 59, Clintwood 50

CLINTWOOD - Cody Justice scored 13 points to lead Grundy (3-2) to a non-district win over the Greenwave (1-3).

Clintwood's Cameron Vanover led all scorers with 23 points.

St.Paul 53, Ervinton 34

ST.PAUL - The Deacons picked up a win in their Cumberland District opener behind the 13-point effort of Dallas Hileman.

Tyler Phillips added 10 points for the St. Paul (4-1, 1-0).

Ervinton (0-3, 0-1) got 10 points each from Caleb breeding and Logan McCowan.

J.I. Burton 52, Lee 50

NORTON - The J.I. Burton Lady Raiders (5-0) overcame 27 turnovers and the absence of their star player to take a win over the defending Division 2 Region D runner-up Lady Generals (4-2).

Burton committed 19 turnovers in the first half. But rebounded to take the win after out-rebounding Lee 45-22.

The Lady Raiders played without the services of Region D player of the year Ra'Shelle Miller, who was suspended for 1 game after a violation of team rules.

Iris Hill hit four 3-point shots on the way to a 16-point performance, while Brianna Stallard finished with 11 points.

The Lady Raiders got a career best 16 rebounds from Sheniqua Woods, while Chelsea Forney added 10 rebounds for Burton.

Lee got 13 points from Jalan McPherson, while Erin Haines scored 12 and Makenzie Cluesman added 11. Morgan Miles finished with 10 for the Lady Generals.

Castlewood 47, Twin Springs 19

CASTLEWOOD - The Lady Blue Devils (2-2, 1-0) opened up Cumberland District play with an impressive win over the Lady Titans (1-2, 0-1).

Nicole Counts scored a game-high 17 points for Castlewood, while Haley Gilbert added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Ashley McConnell scored 10 of the Lady Titans 19 points on the night.

J.J. Kelly 42, Gate City 36

GATE CITY - The Lady Indians picked up a road win behind the 14-point, 13-rebound effort of Ashley Mullins.

Allison Mullins added 10 points for the Lady Indians.

Ervinton 50, St. Paul 26

ST. PAUL - Ervinton kept its record perfect with a big win over the Lady Deacons in the Cumberland District opener for both teams.

The Lady Rebels (6-0, 1-0) got 15 points and 15 rebounds from Kelly Rasnick, while Hannah Edmonds led St. Paul (2-1, 0-1) with 12 points.
