GREENWAVE CLASSIC (at Clintwood Elementary School)

1st Round

CASTLEWOOD 63, POUND 44

Castlewood (4-2) got 17 points and 10 rebounds from Reuben Rasnick on the way to a big win in the first round of the tournament.

Josh Lowe scored 15 points for Pound (1-2), while Chase Beverly added 14.

COUNCIL 53, CLINTWOOD 40

A big scoring run in the 4th quarter led to a come-from-behind win for the Cobras over the host Greenwave (1-4).

Council (6-1) outscored Clintwood 21-3 in the final quarter to take the win.

The Cobras placed three players in double-figure scoring with Travis Viers scoring 17 points, Jeff Gilbert adding 16 points and Shane Presley finishing with 11.

Cameron Vanover led Clintwood with 18 points.

COAL CLASSIC (at Appalachia High School)

COEBURN 62, LEE 57

The Blue Knights (3-3) got 26 points from Holden Burke and 10 points and 14 rebounds from Phillip Riner on the way to a win in the first round of the tournament.

Tyler Maggard scored a game-high 27 points for the Generals (3-2).

APPALACHIA 62, THOMAS WALKER 36

Forrest Stuart scored a game-high 17 points and Mladen Bogicevic scored 12 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (6-0) to a win over the Pioneers (1-5) in the opening-round game of the Coal Classic.

J.I. BURTON 61, COEBURN 48

The Lady Raiders (6-0) got double-digit scoring from four players as they handed Coeburn (3-2) a defeat in the opening round of the Coal Classic. Brianna Stallard led Burton with 15 points, while Ra'Shelle Miller pumped in 14. Iris Hill added 13 points and Chelsey Forney added 12 points for Burton.

Samantha Perry led the Lady Blue Knights with 11 points, while Lindsay Lawson added 10.

RYE COVE 47, POUND 43

The Lady Eagles used a big second-half effort to pick up the win in the first round of the Coal Classic.

Rye Cove (1-7) outscored the Lady Wildcats (5-3) 31-17 in the second half to pull away for the win.

Shasta Edwards scored 17 points, including 11 in the second half, to led Rye Cove's scorers. Christi Hood added 16 for the Lady Eagles.

Samantha Balthis led Pound with 16 points.

J.J. KELLY 54, POWELL VALLEY 46

J.J. Kelly outscored the Lady Vikings 17-9 in the 4th quarter to break open a tie ball game and come away with the win.

Allison Mullins led Kelly (6-1) with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Kaely Mullins added 10 points and Ashley Mullins pulled down 10 rebounds.

Powell Valley got 13 points from Cassie Chadwell, while Tasha Trent and Brittney Bishop scored 11 points each. Trent also added 12 rebounds for the Lady Vikings (3-2).

APPALACHIA 60, ST. PAUL 47

A strong 2nd-hal effort led the host Lady Bulldogs to a 1st-round win in the Coal Classic.

St. Paul led 27-24 at halftime, But Appalachia (5-2) outscored the Lady Deacons 36-20 in the second half to take the win.

Teryn Mullins scored a game-high 24 points for the Lady Bulldogs, while Erica Boggs added 15.

St. Paul (3-2) got 18 points and 11 rebounds from Hannah Edmonds, wihle Aleah Wells added 11 points.
