One Norton man is hospitalized with a gunshot wound and another man has been charged with shooting him following an incident Thursday, city police report.
According to police Chief James Lane, a 911 call came in at 1:42 p.m. yesterday about shots being fired at the Norton Green apartments on 14th Street NW. However, officers found nothing.
A second 911 call came in at 3:02 p.m., noting that a man was lying at the entrance to an apartment, with another man standing over him.
That’s the scene officers found at apartment 350, Lane said.
Timothy Lemay, 50, a resident of that apartment, was arrested. Another man who lives elsewhere in the apartment complex had been shot in the abdomen, Lane explained.
Thus far, the investigation indicates there was some kind of argument, but Lane said it’s too soon to provide further details.
The wounded man, whom Lane declined to identify, was transported to nearby Norton Community Hospital, then was airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., where he remains.
Lemay has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Wise County court records indicate Lemay has previous misdemeanor convictions for public intoxication in 2007 and 2011, and for resisting arrest in 2012.
