Three Garden Club Presidents, Sandy Yun, Martha Wells and Andrea Meador, came together and decided to work on a master plan for having a joint flower show. We were invited by the W. Harris Art Gallery at the Lonesome Pine Regional Library System to have the flower show in the gallery. Meetings were conducted and chairpersons for the various committees needed to fulfill the obligations of a flower show were designated with members from all three groups participating in each category. Margaret Craft, of the Town and Country Garden Club of Wise, was gracious in accepting the position as general coordinator, whose responsibilities were to make sure any position needed was filled and to make sure everything went smoothly according to protocol. It was decided upon to call our National Garden Club Standard Flower Show ‘Spring in our Mountains.’ Betty Fleenor, Master Gardener from the  Dogwood Garden Club, acted as a consultant to help us do things according to the rules and regulations set forth by the National Garden Club.

Amelia VanGundy and Margaret Huguenin, of the Town and Country Garden Club of Wise, worked on the development and finalization of the flower show schedule. They did a superb job on designating and naming the categories for the flower show and printing materials needed for the show. Carol Moore’s, of the Green Thumb Garden Club, photo was used on the program schedule. Betty Dotson and Phyllis Williams of the Town and Country Garden Club of Wise were invaluable with the expertise and hard work afforded to them as part of their registration duties, getting everyone’s entries in the proper places. Patsy Stephens and Francis Sturdavant of the Town and Country Garden Club of Wise and Mary Beth Allen of the Dogwood Garden Club acted as clerks whose duties were to make sure signs were placed in designated areas of display tables and to shadow the judges during judging. Andrea Meador was in charge of getting judges for our show and to have appropriate awards to present to the winners of the various categories. Amelia VanGundy, Margaret Huguenin, of the Town and Country Garden Club of Wise, and Martha Wells of the Green Thumb Garden Club were responsible for the staging of the flower show. Anne Sturgill of the Town and Country Garden Club served as the Public Relations coordinator for the show. The Budget Committee consisted of Sue Wells, Green Thumb Garden Club, Sherry Collie and Nancy Culbertson of the Town and Country Garden Club of Wise. Mary Costa, of the Town and Country Garden Club of Wise, helped with check in, staging and multiple other duties.

Martha of the Dogwood Garden Club, Hospitality Committee consisting of Linda Bailey and Ethel Daniels, Green Thumb Garden Club, and Anne Sturgill, Town and Country Garden Club of Wise, were responsible for the meet and greet and ensuring a delicious lunch was available for the judges.
