rt. 72 slide

For weeks, those who travel regularly on Route 72 between Coeburn and Dungannon have faced delays where a road slide that followed heavy wet weather has reduced the pavement to one lane. Repair work has finally begun, with crews from Glass Machinery backfilling the slide area with stone. The slide area is 110 feet long and 30 to 40 feet wide, according to Virginia Department of Transportation official Jackie Christian. In a June 14 email, he wrote that the project should take 45 to 60 days and will cost about $250,000.
