ELKTON, Va. — Burton’s Lydia Blair-James and Union’s Justin Barnett struck gold twice as Central’s Maddox Reynolds got one of his own at the Class 1/2 state track meet at East Rockingham High School this weekend.
Blair-James won her second championship in a row in the 100 hurdles. And this year, she tacked on a win in the 300 hurdles for good measure. She also placed second in the high jump.
Barnett dominated the shot put with a throw of 54-3 and discus 151-08 for his two wins.
Reynolds won the 110 hurdles continuing his dominant streak as he also won the event in indoor track competitions this past winter. He also placed third in the 300-meter hurdles.
In other 1A boys’ results, Surry County’s Kahorie Batten won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.52. Burton’s Tyrell Ingram placed 14th with a time of 11.69.
Batten also won the 200-meter dash with a 21.83 as Ingram placed 17th with a 24.52
Terrell Pittman of Windsor was victorious in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.90. Alex Mullins of Burton was 11th with a 17.76.
Altavista won the’ 4x100-meter relay with a time of 44.11. Burton’s relay team was 18th with a time of 47.69.
Lancaster won the 4x400 posting a time of 3:33.66. J.I. Burton was 16th with a time of 4:04.93.
James McNeill of Washington & Lee won the high jump with a 6-04. Eastside’s Chris Swann was sixth with a jump of 6-00.
In 2A boys’ action, Kyle Clanton of Central Woodstock took the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.06 edging Ridgeview’s Issac Lockhart with an 11.13. Matthew Sexton of Ridgeview was 11th with a time of 11.43. Union’s Avery Jenkins was 17th with a time of 11.56.
The 200-meter dash had similar results as Clanton (22.16) was first and Lockhart (22.53) was second.
In the 800, Maggie Walker’s Michael Schweiker was first with a 2:00.07. Union’s Jacob Mullins was fourth with a 2:06.39. Central’s Austin Yeary was 14th with a 2:16.27.
Yeary was also eighth in the 1600 with a time of 4:50.13. Adam Sachs of Maggie Walker was first with a 4:30.73.
In the 3200, Oliver Wilson-Cook of Robert E. Lee won with a time of 9:40.47. Central’s Andrew Deel was eighth with a 10:15.79 and Union’s Nathaniel Hersel took ninth with a 10:27.49.
As Reynolds took the 110 hurdles, Union’s Trevor Wagner was fourth with a time of 16.09.
James River’s Ian Hester was victorious in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.90. Union’s Avery Jenkins was second with a 41.83 with Reynolds in third and Union’s Malachi Jenkins in 16th with a 47.69.
In the 4x100 relay, Luray was victorious with a time of 43.45. Ridgeview’s team of Matthew Sexton, Nick Phillips, Trenton Adkins and Lockhart was second with a time of 43.80.
Bruton won the 4x400 with a time of 3:27.86. Union’s team was second at 3:40.28.
Maggie Walker took the 4x800 with a time of 8:25.19. Union was eighth with a time of 8:50.30. Ridgeview came in 17th at 9:54.24.
In the high jump, Martinsville’s Nwachukwu Ugbomah Otunuya took first place with a height of 6-02. Avery Jenkins was third with the same height, but more attempts. Union saw three more jumpers compete, as Zion Mitchell was fifth with a height of 6-00, Antwun Jenkins and Malachi Jenkins were eighth and ninth with jumps of 5-10.
In the long jump, Central Woodstock’s Clanton was victorious with a jump of 22-02.00. Union’s Antwun Jenkins was 14th with a jump of 18-11.50. Central’s Ethan Mullins was 16th with a jump of 18-11.00. Trenton Adkins of Ridgeview was 21st with a 16-00.75.
Union’s Mason Polier threw a 133-00.00 to place 10th in the discus and a 48-02 in the shot put to get fourth.
In 1A girls’ events, the Eastside and Burton 4x100 relay teams were 11th and 12th with times of 56.12 and 56.28. Patrick Henry won with a time of 51.03.
West Point won the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:13.92 Burton’s team was 10th at 4:47.85.
Auburn was victorious in the 4x800 with a time of 10:44.32. Eastside was 10th at 12:57.55.
Molly Rhudy of Chilhowie was victorious in the long jump with a 17-07.00. Burton’s Akyssa Hollinger was 17th with a 14-06.50.
Jenna Kirkland of West Point was victorious in the girls’ discus with a throw of 130-00.00. Eastside’s Lyndsi Love came in 12th with a 92-04.00.
In the shot put finals, Lane Anderson of Middlesex took the victory with a throw of 38-05.00. Love was ninth for Eastside with a throw of 21-10.00.
For the 2A girls, DeNiya Gravely of Martinsville was victorious in the 100-meter dash with a 12.10. Central’s Hannah Large was 13th at 13.18. Ridgeview’s Nikole Counts came in 18th with a 13.76.
Gravely took the 200 as well with a 25.29. Large was 11th with a 27.55.
Jazlyn Jefferson of Greensville County took the 400 with a time of 59.91. Ridgeview’s Counts was fourth with a time of 1:03.20 and Kylie Bostic was ninth at 1:04.88.
Madison Webster of Clarke County won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.25. Central’s Carlee Salyers was sixth at 2:27.98.
Kelsey Harrington of Virginia High was victorious in the 1600 with a time of 4:57.78. Ridgeview’s Haley Sykes was 18th at a 5:58.16. Central’s Lauren Mulkey came in 19th with a 6:11.69.
Harrington also took the 3200 with a time of 10:37.07. Ridgeview’s Kaley Sykes was 13:50.99.
Karena Glass of Bruton won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.26. Ridgeview’s Madison Yates placed 10th with a 17.33.
Paige Miller of Wilson Memorial won the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.53. Yates was 12th with a 55.42.
East Rockingham took the 4x100 relay with a time of 50.13. Central was 15th with a 53.49 and Ridgeview was 16th with a 54.62.
George Mason won the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:12.07. Ridgeview was 13th posting a time of 4:34.86.
Maggie Walker was victorious in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:59.68. Ridgeview came in 12th at 11:46.46.
Makayla Morris of Prince Edward County was victorious in the high jump with a 5-02. Ridgeview’s Counts was 10th with a 4-08 while Union’s Emili Brooks was 15th with a 4-08, but more attempts required.
Greensville County’s Jefferson won the long jump with a jump of 17-03.00. Ridgeview’s Yates and Counts were 22nd and 23rd with jumps of 13-07.00 and 13-05.00.
Martinsville’s Gravelly took the triple jump with a 37-00.00. Ridgeview’s Hailey Pease and Kylie Bostic were 15th and 20th with jumps of 32-03.00 and 30-00.00.
Jocelyn Midkiff of Giles was victorious in the discus with a throw of 145-11.00. Union’s Samantha Hampton was 12th with a throw of 102-01.00.
Catherine Orndorff of East Rockingham took the shot put with a throw of 40-00.00. Union’s Hampton was seventh with a throw of 34-00.00.
