The local accounting firm of Thrower, Blanton & Associates is merging with a Knoxville-based firm in a transaction that also includes a firm in Kingsport, Tenn.

Rodefer Moss & Co., a multi-state accounting and advisory firm, made the announcement Thursday morning of its merger with Thrower, Blanton and the firm of Fortner Smalley.

The merger, effective July 1, will create a combined firm under the Rodefer Moss name with 160 employees and offices in Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana and Virginia, according to the company's announcement.

Thrower, Blanton has a knowledgeable and experienced leadership team, the release noted, including current managing partner Brian K. Blanton, who joined in 1992, Charles Lawson, and Tamara Greear.

Blanton said the firm eagerly anticipates the merger.

“We are ready to see how much we can learn from our new partners and I know they are interested in learning from us," Blanton said. "This partnership combines some of the best and most experienced financial minds in the region possessing a variety of experiences and capabilities.

Established in 1948 by Monroe B. Thrower, and joined by his son M. Bardin Thrower Jr. in 1975, Thrower, Blanton & Associates serves as one of the leading accounting firms in the Southwest Virginia and Upper East Tennessee area. It provides financial guidance to local businesses and individuals, and offers services in trust and estate planning, financial planning, tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, assurance services and computerized accounting setup.

Jimmy Rodefer, chief executive officer of Rodefer Moss, said similarity in business philosophy helped bring the firms together.
