Veteran District One state Del. Terry Kilgore is a candidate for re-election in November, but he might not appear on the ballot.
According to published reports, Kilgore, R-Gate City, did not get his nomination paperwork to the state elections department before the filing deadline because of a mixup on whether it had been faxed or mailed.
Attorneys for Kilgore reportedly appeared before the State Board of Elections Tuesday to ask that he be declared the nominee. They presented statements from party officials confirming he had won the Republican nomination.
If the state board does not put Kilgore on the ballot, he would have to run a write-in campaign.
At this time, no challenger to Kilgore has emerged.
District One includes Norton, part of Wise County and the counties of Scott and Lee.
