Wise County Treasurer Delores Wilson Smith received a prestigious award from the Treasurers’ Association of Virginia at its 89th annual conference in Arlington.
Smith received the Commonwealth Award — an award so special that it is not given out every year.
The award recognizes vision, integrity and leadership in the association, according to a press release. It is to recognize years of devoted service, accomplishment of major goals and huge contributions to the association.
Smith received multiple nominations from treasurers across the commonwealth and was praised for her willingness to share her knowledge and skills by assisting other offices.
During Smith’s tenure as treasurer, the office has modernized and implemented new practices that it has shared with other localities. Smith has also served in various educational roles.
Smith has previously received the association’s Treasurer of the Year award in 2010 and the President’s Award in 2013. She served as the association’s president in 2014 and currently serves as its treasurer.
